Moscow – The fascinating Red Square is often the first stop for visitors, lured by the colourful onion domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral. The somber and severe Lenin’s Mausoleum located nearby is a stark contrast to the exuberant colours of the regal St. Basil’s Cathedral. It is said that each era of the Russian history left its architectural mark on the Kremlin, with monuments such as the Cathedral of the Assumption and Ivan the Great Bell Tower found within the Kremlin walls. With a multitude of palaces, churches and museums, the Kremlim contains enough state regalia and treasures for several days of sightseeing. Fine arts lovers will be mesmerized by the masterpieces found in the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum and Tretyakov Gallery while shopping lovers will enjoy souvenir-hunting at GUM Department Store or Izmailovsky Flea Market. |

St Petersburg – The baroque-styled Winter Palace is undoubtedly St. Petersburg’s most impressive attraction. It was the main residence of the Russian royalty during the Czarist era and is now home to the world famous Hermitage Museum, the world's largest and most respected art gallery. St Petersburg also has its fair share of cathedrals. Marvel at the glistening gilded dome of St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the stunning blue-and-white Smolny Cathedral and the bright onion domes of the Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood. The Cathedral within the Peter and Paul Fortress is the resting place of most Russian monarchs and is also admired for its tall thin gilded spire. Other impressive historical monuments include the Bronze Horseman, Alexander Column, Catherine Palace and the Summer Palace of Peter the Great, with its famous Grand Cascade fountains. |
